SAP Partner Credentials - What They Really Prove
Most people who have ever worked with ERP suppliers will have heard various partner credentials from the companies they've dealt with. But what do these credentials prove and what do they actually mean for your SAP Business One project? This blog explores why the combination of credentials matters more than any one single badge.
Ascarii holds four independently awarded credentials: SAP Business One Premier Partner status, AWS Advanced Tier partner status, Boyum Solutions Gold Partner status, and the AWS SMB Competency. Together they confirm one team - not four separate vendors - is vetted to implement, host, and support an SAP Business One system from end to end.
If you've spent any time comparing SAP Business One partners, you'll have seen a wall of logos on every website - SAP, AWS, sometimes half a dozen more. Not all of them mean the same thing, and not all of them are hard to earn. Before you weigh up a partner on the strength of their credentials, it's worth understanding what each one actually requires and, more importantly, what it means when one partner holds several of them at once.
The Four Credentials, in Brief
Ascarii's four credentials sit across three different vendors - SAP, AWS, and Boyum Solutions - each independently validating a different part of the SAP Business One stack: the ERP implementation itself, the cloud infrastructure it runs on, and the tools that make it easier to use day to day.
SAP Business One Premier Partner: within SAP's Business One partner programme, Premier sits above Gold, a tier reserved for partners who go beyond baseline certification requirements. Ascarii holds this status; SAP has not yet published a public directory of Premier-tier partners, so we're not able to state precisely how many UK partners hold it.
AWS Advanced Tier Partner: the AWS Partner Network runs three tiers - Select, Advanced, and Premier - and Advanced is the second. Reaching it means a partner has a team of AWS-certified technical staff, a track record of successful AWS deployments, and an active working relationship with an AWS Partner Development Manager, all independently reviewed by AWS.
Boyum Solutions Gold Partner: Boyum Solutions builds widely used SAP Business One tools, including the B1 Usability Package, which lets businesses configure and extend their system without commissioning custom development. Boyum runs four partner tiers - Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze, and Gold sits second from the top, reflecting a deeper level of product expertise than the entry tiers.
AWS SMB Competency: AWS launched this specialisation in January 2024, specifically for partners serving small and medium businesses rather than large enterprise accounts. Partners earn it through a technical review of their SMB delivery methodology and documented customer outcomes assessed by AWS itself - not self-submitted case studies. (See our dedicated post on the AWS SMB Competency for the full picture.)
Why the Combination Matters More Than Any Single Badge
Any one of these credentials on its own tells you a partner has passed a vendor's bar in one area. Held together, they tell you something more useful: that the same team responsible for your SAP Business One implementation is also the team architecting, securing, and supporting the cloud environment it runs on, rather than handing that piece to someone else.
It's common in the SAP Business One world for an implementation partner to outsource hosting to a separate infrastructure provider. That's not necessarily a bad model, but it does mean two vendors are involved in keeping your system running, and if something goes wrong, working out whose responsibility it is can slow down the fix. Ascarii's AWS Advanced Tier status means our own team designs, secures, and manages the AWS environment your SAP Business One system runs on - we don't broker that relationship out. Paired with SAP Premier status on the implementation side and Boyum Gold on the tooling side, it means one team is independently validated across the whole stack, not just one piece of it.
Boyum Gold status plays a smaller but related role. Many SAP Business One businesses end up relying on the B1 Usability Package to configure dashboards, automate approvals, or build reports without commissioning custom development, and a partner who's only lightly familiar with it can turn a five-minute configuration change into a drawn-out support ticket. Ascarii's Gold status with Boyum means that layer of the system gets the same level of in-house expertise as the ERP solution itself and the infrastructure around it.
This matters most when something needs fixing quickly. A single point of accountability means there's no back-and-forth between an ERP partner and a hosting provider to establish where a fault sits. The same team that built your system can see the infrastructure it runs on, end to end.
Why This Matters More as Your Business Grows
The more your business relies on SAP Business One - more users, more integrated processes, tighter month-end deadlines - the more expensive any gap in support becomes. A short delay diagnosing a fault might have been a minor inconvenience when five people used the system. When forty people across finance, operations, and the warehouse floor depend on it running, the same delay costs real time and real money.
This is where the combination of credentials earns its keep. A partner who's independently validated across implementation, hosting, and the tools layered on top is not only a safer choice on day one, but a partner whose support model scales in step with your business, rather than becoming a weak point as you grow.
A Worked Example: Comparing Two Partners
Picture two SAP Business One partners quoting for the same project. Partner A holds a Gold Partner status with SAP and quotes a competitive monthly fee for support, but hosting is handled by a separate infrastructure company they work with informally, which is a company Partner A's customers have no direct relationship with. If a performance issue turns out to be on the infrastructure side, Partner A has to raise it with their hosting partner and wait for a response before they can even confirm where the fault sits.
Partner B holds SAP Premier Partner status and AWS Advanced Tier status directly, alongside Boyum Gold status for the tooling layer. When the same kind of issue comes up, the same engineers who built the SAP Business One environment can look straight into the AWS infrastructure underneath it and the Boyum configuration on top of it - no handoff, no waiting on a second vendor's response time.
The credentials themselves don't fix anything on their own. What they represent is that the partner's own team has been independently vetted to do the job, which actually changes how quickly a problem gets solved.
How to Verify a Partner's Credentials Yourself
It's reasonable to take a badge on a website at face value, but it's worth a five-minute check before you do. For SAP status, ask the partner directly which tier they hold and how recently it was confirmed - SAP's own partner directories don't always reflect newer designations immediately. For AWS, ask whether their tier applies specifically to hosting your kind of workload, not just a general AWS partnership. For any vendor-specific add-on, like Boyum's B1 Usability Package, ask whether the partner's certification covers the exact product you'll be using, since certifications on one Boyum product don't automatically extend to another.
None of this needs to feel like an interrogation. A partner who's genuinely earned their credentials will usually be glad to explain what each one required. It's the partners who stay vague about it that you should be wary about.
What This Means in Practice for a Switching or First-Time Buyer
For a business evaluating SAP Business One partners, whether for a first implementation or a switch away from an existing provider, Ascarii's combined credentials translate into a single support relationship, a faster escalation path when issues arise, and independently verified competence rather than marketing claims alone.
If you're switching partners because a previous provider was slow to resolve support tickets, it's worth asking directly: who hosts your system, and is it the same company implementing and supporting it? If the answer involves more than one vendor, that's worth factoring into your decision. Our support tiers cover the system end to end for exactly this reason - implementation, hosting, and ongoing support sit with one team.
The businesses we work with are usually growing past the point where spreadsheets or an ageing system can keep up, and the last thing they need is a support model that adds friction on top of that. One trusted partner, independently validated by SAP, AWS, and Boyum, is part of how we try to remove that friction rather than add to it.
FAQ
Do I need to check my SAP Business One partner's credentials before signing?
It's worth it, yes - not to collect logos, but to understand what each one actually required the partner to prove, and to whom. Ask what's been independently verified by SAP, AWS, or another vendor, versus what's simply stated on the partner's own website.
What's the difference between an SAP Gold Partner and a Premier Partner?
Within SAP's Business One partner programme, Premier sits above Gold, reflecting a higher bar for certified consultants, delivery volume, and customer satisfaction. SAP has not yet published full public documentation on the Premier tier, so it's a newer designation - worth asking any partner who claims it how recently it was awarded and what it required.
Does my SAP Business One partner need to be AWS-certified?
Not necessarily - plenty of good SAP Business One partners work with a separate hosting provider. But if your partner also hosts your system, an AWS partner tier (Select, Advanced, or Premier) is a useful independent signal of how seriously they've invested in doing that well.
How often are these credentials reviewed or renewed?
All three vendors review status periodically rather than issuing it once and leaving it unchecked. AWS reviews certified headcount and customer outcomes, SAP reviews delivery volume and satisfaction scores, and Boyum reviews product expertise. A current credential reflects a partner's current standing, not just something earned years ago and never revisited.
